My longbow story began 12 years ago, and every year has been a memorable one. I've always loved the flight of a well-shot arrow, especially when wild game is on the other end. There isn't anything quite like being in the woods with a primitive weapon, especially when animals are close by. I'm also an avid bowfisherman and go whenever I can. Its a unique sport and I enjoy everything about it (with the exception of the bugs anyway).
My Michigan Longbow Association origins are simple. I've been nosing around the MLA for years, but only recently thought of joining the Council. Mainly because it was always full of dedicated folks I knew, and I didn't feel it was my time to step up. As luck would have it, a seat opened this Spring, and I figured it was time to throw in my hat. I'd always wanted to contribute more to the MLA and this was my opportunity. Plus, I was pretty sure I would be great at it. Everything has been fantastic thus far!
I love to help people out and always make myself available to do so. I also love to work with kids. Shortly before taking my seat, I was asked to be a part of an outreach event the MLA held at West Kellogsville Elementary. We introduced the longbow to 240 eager 2nd and 3rd graders and had them all shooting before the day was through. That was something special and left quite an impression on me. I hope to do so again in the near future and will do my part to make sure it is in the cards.
When I'm not at an event, on the lake, or in the woods, I love spending time with my beautiful wife Donna. We've been married 6 years and she lets me get away with far too much. I think the key to being successful as a bowhunter or archer is to have an understanding spouse who is willing to participate. I'm fortunate to have one that is, and I do not take her for granted. We've hunted together often, and I enjoy every minute of it. I'm sure you'll see us both in the near future! When you do, please give me a shout! I'm as approachable as they come and love to bow and arrow.
I'm also the unofficial merchandise coordinator of the MLA, meaning I handle the t-shirt, hat, mug, decal, etc orders for sale at our events. Should you have ideas or would like to see the MLA carry a particular item, please let me know!
Until next time!
