MLA
Points of Pride:
The MLA
holds the Great Lakes Longbow Invitational (GLLI) in
August every year. That's when we gather for an extended
weekend of camping, longbow shooting, shopping from top vendors,
and an overall great time with family and friends. One of the
highlights
of the GLLI is our traditional 'Silver Arrow Shoot'. The winner gets the
distinction of being called the 'Best Archer in the Realm' and
is awarded the coveted 'Silver Arrow'. There are numerous
other shoots, including: 3D courses, novelty shoots (including
our unique night shoot), and an impressive kid's shooting
area. 2009 marked the 25th anniversary of this amazing
event.
The MLA holds an
annual Awards Banquet in February where our members enjoy a
great meal, a dessert contest, an arrow making contest, raffles,
an auction, a presentation of big game and small game awards,
and members being recognized for their many contributions to our
great organization.
The MLA holds an
annual General Membership Meeting and Spring Shoot, which is
a fun camping/shooting weekend that is FREE to all MLA members and their families.
The MLA
publishes a quarterly newsletter called
STICKTALK, which entertains, educates, and keeps our members up-to-date about the
latest happenings of our organization. All MLA members are
encouraged to submit articles, photos, recipes, and other
relevant content for STICKTALK. MLA members also
share with others through this website, our
Facebook page, and
our Discussion
Forum.
The MLA is dedicated to
promoting archery and the love of the outdoors to our youth.
Annual youth scholarships are awarded, and we participate (both
financially and through volunteerism) with
youth hunts, and a variety of youth programs.
The MLA runs a kid's shooting area at the GLLI, the Kalamazoo
Traditional Bowhunting Expo, B4K and other events every year.
We have dozens of youth bows and the rest of the archery tackle
necessary to safely introduce kids to our wonderful sport.
The MLA supports
Michigan
Bow Hunters.
The MLA proudly
supports the men and women of our armed services around the
world, and has lead the way since 2004, through the
Camp Cuervo
Archery Club, in providing soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan
with archery equipment for their leisure time.

In
2008 the MLA celebrated its 25th anniversary. STICKTALK
celebrated this milestone with a special '25th Anniversary'
issue, which is full of vintage articles, photos, and flyers
which showcase the history of our great organization. This
special issue provides a great overview of what the MLA is all
about.
