My name is Stan Van Liere and I’ve been shooting a stickbow since the 1970's. I’ve been a member of Compton Traditional Bowhunters since 2005. It was while I was attending one of the Compton Rendezvous that I was introduced to the Michigan Longbow Association and Steve Turay of Northern Mist Longbows. That was when my longbow love took off and I have never looked back.

I started going to GLLI with my brother and his family and got hooked helping kids learn to shoot. I’ve had the opportunity to help out at the kids’ Silver Arrow Competition and Charlton Park Days. I love seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces as they shoot the longbow for the first time.

Two years ago, my wife Nancee and I retired and started traveling to as many trad shoots as possible. Nancee used to follow me around as I shot the 3D courses with friends and then she got the bug. She had never shot a bow before and is now hooked. She can’t wait for the shooting season to begin again.

Being retired, I now have more time to help out this great association and am honored to have a seat on the Council. The MLA is the greatest family-oriented organization with the friendliest people you could ever meet. I am loving the opportunity to help the MLA grow and get even better.
